A Hearthstone company - serving Freeport, NY

DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex 316Ti chimney liners crack at the tee body in Freeport’s freeze-thaw cycles. The 316Ti series uses a titanium-stabilized stainless steel that resists corrosion well, but the tee body weld is a stress concentrator. When a Freeport home’s liner runs cool because the fireplace insert is oversized for the flue, condensation freezes in the tee during January cold snaps. We see this in the older homes near the Freeport Recreation Center more than anywhere else. We cut out the failed tee, inspect the surrounding flex for work-hardening, and install an OEM DuraFlex tee with a proper condensate drain. If the flex has lost its shape memory, we replace the run rather than patch it.
  • DuraFlex SW (solid weld) liners suffer creosote buildup behind the corrugations. The SW series has a smooth interior wall, but the exterior corrugations create valleys where creosote can pack in if the liner is undersized for the appliance. This is a fire hazard, not a cleaning quirk. We use a rotary polypropylene whip sized to the liner diameter - never a steel chain on stainless - and follow with a Level-2 camera inspection so you see the bore yourself. If the liner was installed at the wrong diameter for the BTU load, we’ll tell you plainly.
  • DuraFlex DSA (direct-vent appliance) connectors degrade at the appliance adapter. The DSA line uses a proprietary twist-lock adapter that seals with a compressed gasket. After ten to fifteen years of thermal cycling, the gasket hardens and the twist-lock loosens. We’ve found aftermarket adapters that claim compatibility but don’t seat to the correct depth, leaking combustion gases into the chase. We stock OEM DuraFlex DSA adapters and gaskets, and we measure the engagement depth with a go/no-go check after installation.
  • DuraFlex Pro oval liners ovalize further during insert retrofits. The Pro series oval is designed to fit inside masonry flues with minimal clearance, but when a heavy cast-iron insert is slid in behind it, the liner can deform if the support plate doesn’t distribute load. We’ve rescued three of these in Freeport’s Merrick Road corridor in the past two years alone. Our fix: a custom-fabricated support plate with load spreaders, or in severe cases, a transition to a rigid DuraFlex run above the smoke chamber.
  • DuraFlex relining termination caps corrode at the salt-air line. Freeport’s two miles from the Atlantic, and the coastal salt accelerates 304 stainless cap corrosion faster than DuraFlex’s own documentation suggests for inland climates. The 316Ti cap upgrade is worth the material cost here. We check cap mesh for clogging every service, and we document the condition with photos - you’ll see what we see, no interpretation needed.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
Call intake with live person. We ask for the DuraFlex series if you know it, the appliance type, and what you’re observing. We don’t book blind.
  2. 2
On-site Level-2 camera inspection. Our technician runs a camera through the flue or liner, photographs every joint and transition, and explains the findings before quoting. You see the same images we see.
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM DuraFlex or verified equivalent. For warranty-active installations, we use OEM. For out-of-warranty systems, we may recommend a quality aftermarket part if it meets or exceeds DuraFlex spec - we’ll explain the trade-off and let you decide.
  4. 4
Repair with no-hassle upfront pricing. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. If we find something unexpected, we stop and call before proceeding.
  5. 5
Post-repair combustion or draft test. Gas fireplaces get a combustion analysis; wood-burning units get a smoke-puff draft test. We verify the fix, not assume it.
  6. 6
Written 90-Day Done Right Promise and cleanup. We leave the work area as we found it, with documentation of what was done and our guarantee in writing - no arguing, no paperwork chase.

We’ve been answering the phone with a live person for over 42 years, and we plan to be here when your next question comes up. Our 90-Day Done Right Promise means if it’s not right, we make it right - in writing, no arguing, governed by our K.E.Y.S. code: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it.

Our technicians are background-checked, uniformed, and trained on DuraFlex specifics, not generic fireplace theory. When a DuraFlex part is back-ordered, we have working relationships with HeatShield and Gelco to keep your system safe in the interim - we don’t leave you hanging because one SKU is out of stock.

Russell Haines, our owner, started in this trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent years reading flues across Freeport’s varied housing stock. If the flue’s not right, the fire’s not right. It’s that simple.
